10 Things I Think I Know Right Now (Mostly Sports Edition)
1. I think the addition of Javon Walker to the receiving corps of the Broncos could work out pretty well. Even with disgruntled Ashley Lelie in the mix, there's still David Terell coming up and like the Browns linemen surprise of last year, another could be this trio. Immediately, I'm thinking a good solid trio would give the Raiders fits (since Woodson is no longer in the backfield). Again, if Denver only wins 2 games in the season, and they are both against Oakland, its been a great season!
2. Hmmm...Jay Cutler as the #11th pick today. First impression is-- he's got a great arm and mobility, but does he have passion? I think being in camp w/Bradley Van Pelt should be a very good thing for the rookie. Van Pelt may not have the arm, but the guy is a competitor. But still, I'm interested in what the kid can do and look forward to seeing him in camp and pre-season.
3. I think there's going to be more drama in the game between Dallas and my Av's. Which is- after all, what the game is about. Still, I'm pulling for the Oilers to beat them Red Wings!
4. I think that those of you who are planning on flying out in the coming months should secure your tickets quickly. With the price of gas the way it is, you can bet the airlines will have to pass the extra cost to us.
5. I think (know) that I'm blessed to have to be at work only 7 out of 14 days.
6. I think broadband costs too much and it doesn't look like there's any relief in the price going down anytime soon. Grrrr!
7. I think going to see United 93 tomorrow will be emotional, but there are moments we'd rather not remember, yet explains much of our surroundings today (or, as Merlin says in the movie Excalibur "it is the doom of men that they forget"). It gives clarity to the question of 'why' we are in this fight against terrorism, and gives context to the job our soldiers have taken upon (the majority by choice) in other countries.
8. I think Denver is keeping a great secret in that its a hidden gem of a sports town. Yes, there are rabid fans in the coastal states, but in terms of competitiveness, our teams (for whatever reason) seem to be under the radar (example- hockey team is always in the running; football team is always competitive; Arena football team won the championship last year; LaCrosse team is playing for the championship this year; Soccer league made it to the playoffs 4 consecutive years, etc). Yup, as a sports nut, I definitely love this place.
9. I think Senator Clinton and (formal) V.P. Gore running against one another is intriguing. Personally, I don't think either will win, but I'd like to just sit back and see what strategies the two would use on each other.
10. I think the movie I'm most looking forward to seeing in the upcoming months is Stardust. I know, I rail a little bit about Neil Gaiman's books (that the endings are somewhat weak), but this one actually was very good from beginning to end. It's been close to 10 years now since I've read it, but seeing the cast (Robert DeNiro and Michelle Pfeiffer; Claire Danes is also in it, but I'm still not a big fan), I've got a lot of hope that it may be a pretty good movie. Go figure, out of all the things I've read from Gaiman, the 'adult fairy tale' (as Gaiman describes it) is one of my favorites.
